“Let the beauty we love, be what we do.”
These words of the poet Rumi guide who I am and how I work. I came to sewing, knitting, dotting, beading and all other creative play through exploration of the arts and crafts with my daughter She’ifa.
I look for order within chaos, chaos within order, the balance between simplicity and complexity. I look for unity within what appears discordant, the form that responds to function and the beauty that responds to form. Hopefully, these ideas are expressed in what I sew, from small wallets to professional totes, what I knit, from hats to shawls, what I bead, from bookmarks to necklaces, and what I paint in mandalas.
I see my work as a gift, a piece of beauty one item at a time.
